Tri-Lakes CASA Prevention Programs
At Tri-Lakes CASA, we work alongside children, teens, and families who have experienced abuse, neglect, foster care involvement, family instability, trauma, and other challenges that place youth at greater risk for poor long-term outcomes. Because of this, prevention is an essential part of our mission.
Prevention at Tri-Lakes CASA focuses on reducing future risk, strengthening protective factors, increasing stability, and helping youth build the skills, support systems, and resilience needed for long-term success. Through advocacy, mentorship, resource connection, and community collaboration, we work to help youth and families move from crisis toward healing, stability, and hope.
A major focus of our prevention efforts is supporting transitional-age youth as they prepare for adulthood. Many teens involved in foster care or the juvenile court system face barriers related to education, employment, housing stability, mental wellness, life skills, and healthy relationships. Without consistent support, these youth are at greater risk for homelessness, unemployment, substance misuse, continued trauma exposure, and involvement with the justice system after aging out of care.
Tri-Lakes CASA believes every young person deserves the opportunity to transition into adulthood with confidence, support, and a plan for the future. Our prevention-focused work helps equip youth with the tools and connections needed to build stable and successful lives through:
- Life skills development
- Educational support and career readiness
- Goal setting and future planning
- Financial literacy and independence
- Healthy coping and decision-making skills
- Self-advocacy and leadership development
- Positive adult and peer connections
- Emotional wellness and resilience-building
Tri-Lakes CASA also utilizes principles from the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF), a public health planning model designed to create sustainable community change. The SPF helps guide prevention efforts through assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and ongoing collaboration. By identifying local needs and strengthening protective factors, we can better support at-risk youth and families while creating prevention strategies that are responsive to our communities.
Our work incorporates the 7 Strategies for Community Change, recognizing that meaningful prevention requires both individual support and community-level action. These strategies include:
- Providing information and prevention education
- Enhancing life and coping skills
- Offering support and mentoring opportunities
- Strengthening connections to services and resources
- Encouraging community collaboration
- Creating healthier environments for youth and families
- Promoting systems and practices that support child and family well-being
Because trauma and instability impact every area of a young person’s life, Tri-Lakes CASA also promotes SAMSHA’s 8 Dimensions of Wellness as part of a whole-person approach to prevention and healing:
- Emotional Wellness
- Physical Wellness
- Occupational Wellness
- Intellectual Wellness
- Financial Wellness
- Social Wellness
- Environmental Wellness
- Spiritual Wellness

By focusing on wellness, protective factors, and positive relationships, we help youth build confidence, stability, and the ability to navigate adulthood more successfully despite past adversity.
Prevention is not separate from CASA’s mission; it is part of how we advocate for better outcomes for children and families every day. Whether through volunteer advocacy, transitional youth support, family resource connections, mentorship, or community partnerships, Tri-Lakes CASA remains committed to providing an extra layer of support by helping children who have experienced trauma find safety, stability, permanency, and the opportunity for a brighter future.
Fostering Better Futures Coalition
The Fostering Better Futures Coalition was developed by the Tri-Lakes CASA Prevention Program after recognizing the need for stronger communication, collaboration, and coordinated support for foster youth and families throughout our region. We saw a need to bridge gaps between services and bring community partners together to better support at-risk youth and families.
Focused on uniting all 12 community sectors at one table, the coalition brings together organizations, professionals, educators, foster families, service providers, faith-based partners, businesses, and community members who are passionate about creating better outcomes for children and teens impacted by trauma, foster care involvement, and family instability.
Through collaboration, resource sharing, prevention-focused initiatives, and community engagement, the coalition works to strengthen protective factors, improve access to services, and build a more connected and supportive network for youth and families across Garland, Grant, Pike, Clark, and Hot Spring counties.
We welcome new members who are committed to supporting youth and strengthening families in our communities. Coalition meetings are held on the 4th Thursday of each month at 10:00 AM.
